2 Assemblies fail to elect presiding users

Members of the Tamale Metropolitan Set up (TaMA) and the Chereponi District Set up on Wednesday unsuccessful to elect new Presiding Members (PMs) following the candidates’ inability to get two-thirds of the entire votes cast as required by legislation. In the elections at the TaMa, the incumbent PM, Prophet Alhassan Yogudoo, polled 31 votes while a government appointee, Mohammed Abdulai, experienced 28 votes away of the total of 59 ballots cast. With respect to Chereponi, the Assemblyman for Chereponi West, Abdul-Rahaman Sherif, got 15 ballots against seven ballots garnered by the Assemblyman for Wenchiki, Alhassan Ganiu, away of the total of 33 ballots cast.

Some of the assembly members who spoke to the Daily Graphic indicated worry about the assembly’s failure to elect a Presiding Member, saying the situation would prevent development in the metropolis. “Now that we have unsuccessful to elect a Presiding Member for this house, we don’t know that is going to call together, get together, gather, assemble the next conference for the political election, ” one of mount members lamented.

The election was supervised by authorities of the Tamale Metro Electoral Commission rate. Presiding members play an important role in the decentralisation process of the nation. For each Article 244 of the 1992 Metabolic rate, all district devices are mandated to elect presiding users who will preside over meetings of the assemblies. This particular means that without PMs, district devices cannot meet to make choices for the assemblies.
